Tuberculosis

All Journey Nursing Staff are required to complete the TB Health Risk Assessment at time of hire and every year at their annual review date. If they answer yes to any of the 3 questions on the questionnaire, they will be required to complete an annual TB test. With the exception of being born out of the country and they have previously tested negative, and they have not traveled to their country of origin- as there are no new risk factors. 

Journey Nursing Services will ensure that workers receive TB related training and education during new employee orientation. Training and education will be consistent with the department's tuberculosis programs online posted educational materials

All new hires who plan to work int the communities float pool are required to submit documentation that either a two-step TB test or a QuantiFERON has been completed within 6 months prior to their start date, or the employee must initiate either a two-step TB test or a Quantiferon – TB Gold blood test within 3 days of their start date. 

If the employee can provide medical documentation of the completion of a previously negative TB skin test, they will only be required to complete a 1 step TB test, and the historical documentation will be uploaded into their employee record. If they do not have documentation of a previous negative TB skin test, they will be required to complete a second TB skin test 1-3 weeks after the first test. These tests will be completed off-site. 

After the initial chest x-ray, a sign and symptom questionnaire should be administered annually. If symptomatic, the employee should complete a chest x-ray and continue evaluation for TB disease. Otherwise, following X-ray will be completed every 7 years. 

All Journey Nursing Services float pool staff are required to complete TB testing annually.
